Head to the Dartmouth / Lake Sunapee Region this summer for a road trip filled with an abundance of scenic beauty, outdoor recreation, and a little bit of history too.
Black Bear Vineyard (289 New Road, Salisbury) Off the beaten path, this vineyard sits on 18 acres of beautiful rolling hills in Salisbury. Take a tour of their vineyard, sample handcrafted wines made from grapes grown on the grounds, or spend time relaxing outside on their stone patios complete with firepits.
Sweet Beet Market & Cafe (11 W Main Street, Bradford) A small market that prides itself on supporting local. This community staple is chock full of hyper-local foods: fresh fruits, veggies, meats, cheeses, dairy products, delicious homemade breads, pastries and baked goods and local crafts too.
Kezar Lake (Sutton) Explore the quiet, peaceful, scenic Kezar Lake on the loop that goes around this off the radar lake. The 3-mile loop around offers fantastic lakeside scenery as well as the chance to see wildlife and views of nearby Mount Kearsarge. The road around is a mix of pavement and packed gravel so you can walk it, or make the trip by car.
Sunapee Harbor Riverwalk (58 Main Street, Sunapee) Sunapee Harbor is beautiful but don’t overlook the Riverwalk while in town. This short, scenic walk follows the Sugar River, and gives a window into the past. The old Town Hall and former livery stable, the town’s hydro facility, are some of the sites along the route, along with great river views.
Enfield Shaker Museum (447 NH -4A, Enfield) Walk the grounds of the Enfield Shaker Museum for a sense of the history of the people who lived here from the 1780s to the early 1920s. At one time there were 300 buildings on site, nine remain and visitors can tour all of them via guided or self-guided tours.
Andrew Brook Trail up to Lake Solitude (Mountain Road, Newbury) Considered a challenging trek, this trail travels across numerous streams as it makes its way to beautiful Lake Solitude. The small, isolated lake is the crater of an ancient volcano and offers a peaceful serene setting. The trek is about 4 miles round trip.
Four Aces Diner (23 Bridge Street, West Lebanon) Don’t be fooled by the outside, once inside this classic diner you’ll discover an authentic railroad car with counter seating and old-fashioned booths. Fill up on hearty breakfasts that include cinnamon bun pancakes and creative egg benedict dishes that can only be matched by their burgers and signature sandwiches.
